This week’s question was submitted during our “Hot Seat” Sunday back in August: Has the anti-christ been revealed? And will he be before the Rapture?

Interesting question, and probably one for which there are as many opinions as there are pastors.  But since you asked me, I’ll give you my opinion – since the Bible does NOT give us the answer to either question.

Here are some passages you may want to read to acquaint yourself with what Scripture says about the antiChrist: 2 Thess. 2:3; 1 John 2:18; 1 John 4:3; Rev. 13:11-18; Dan. 11:21-45.

Now, to your questions: has the antiChrist been revealed? My answer would be ‘NO’, if you mean we can identify him today.  Personally, I’m not interested in playing that game, since in the 50 years I’ve been in ministry, I’ve heard at least a dozen or so world leaders identified by someone as being the antiChrist, and none of their guesses have been correct yet!

If you mean, is the AntiChrist alive on earth today, I would say, “very possibly, maybe even likely”.  Just because I can’t identify him doesn’t mean he hasn’t already been born.

Finally, will he be revealed before the Rapture? That all depends on your view of eschatology (end-time events).  If you believe the Rapture will occur in the middle of a 7-year period of Tribulation OR if you believe the Rapture will take place after the Tribulation, then I would certainly guess that the AntiChrist would have been revealed prior to the rapture.  If you believe, as many evangelicals do today, that the Rapture will take place before the Tribulation, then I’d say there’s no guarantee the AntiChrist would be known prior to the Rapture.

Finally, if your focus is on Matthew 24:14 as mine is, you can be content to let all of those ideas unfold as they will, while our priority remains on reaching people with the Gospel!

Hope that helps a bit.  Now, would you care to join the conversation by leaving your comments below?
