Zech. 10:1 NKJV

Timing is everything.  Farmers know that.  If they don’t plant at the right time, they won’t have a harvest.  Baseball players know that.  If they don’t swing the bat at the right time, what could have been an extra-base hit becomes an easy out.  The right action at the wrong time never yields the results we want.  Timing is everything.

That’s what’s so encouraging about Zechariah 10:1, when the prophet tells us to “Ask the Lord for rain In the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone.”

In other words, Zechariah says we should ask the Lord for rain at the right time, when the Lord is willing to provide that rain to help produce and insure the harvest we all want.

That’s GOOD NEWS!  Are you praying today for people you love who do not yet know Jesus? This is the time that the Lord is willing to answer those prayers, for 2Peter 3:9 tells us that the Lord is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Are you praying today for a physical healing for yourself or for someone you know? This is the right time for those prayers, because in Exodus 15:26 the Lord declares, “I am the Lord who heals you!”  Notice, He didn’t say, “I was the God who used to heal people” or “Someday I will be the God who heals people”, but “I am the Lord who heals!”.  In fact, the KJV that I grew up with says, “I am the Lord who healeth thee” and while we don’t use that little ‘eth’ ending any more, it’s not just outdated English; that ‘eth’ at the end means this is a continuing action; i.e., He is the Lord who continues to heal people, now and forever more!  And while we’re there, don’t overlook the fact that He said He is the Lord who heals you!  This is a personal promise that you can claim today – so if you’re praying for healing, you’re praying at the right time!

Maybe you’re praying for wisdom today, because you’re facing some difficult decisions in this New Year.  Can I encourage you that you are praying this prayer at just the right time?  Because James 1:5 says “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”  James went on to say that we should pray that prayer in faith, not doubting.  You can expect God to answer that prayer, because this is the time that He loves to give wisdom and direction to His children – and because you are His sheep, you can and do hear His voice!  That’s what John 10:27 says – “My sheep hear my voice”.  In the past, when I was facing difficult decisions as a pastor, I would sometimes whine that I just wasn’t hearing God’s voice and didn’t know what to do, until one day a precious saint kindly corrected me and said, “Pastor, don’t say that – Jesus said His sheep hear His voice” – and I’ve been confessing that truth ever since!

Whatever it is that you are calling on the Lord to do today, just know that this IS the season that He is hearing and answering prayer.  Let’s call on Him with confidence!
